This work embodies light and shadow, time and movement, rhythm and sequence choreographed by color and space.

The request was to design a set of shading devices to allow adjustment of vision as one enters and exits a 1,431 m vehicular tunnel.  The traffic parameters yielded 10 seconds of experience moving from full darkness at the end of the tunnel to full daylight at top of the ramp. Given these metrics, the design adopted the application of simple rectilinear frames that spanned the width of the tunnel as the sole form to mitigate daylight. The challenge was in the spacing of frames, the solution was based on the logarithmic frequency of the frame spacing that provided the optimal gradual experience of moving from dark to light enhanced by spectral color. … the result a memorial inflection in travel.
